Nikolai Kardashev is a Soviet astronomer and astrophysicist renowned for his theories on the energy output of advanced civilizations in space. Born in 1932 in Russia, he studied physics and astronomy at the Moscow University, where he earned his doctorate in astrophysics in 1959.
